Musical interludes

I usually write to music and sometimes it inspires certain scenes or in the case of my current work in progress, it inspires the entire work. My current project draws from a song by the Norwegian band Kings of Convenience. You probably haven’t heard of them and that’s perfectly all right.  My WIP focuses on a couple brought together by their affinity for Swedish music, certainly a trait not shared by the general populace.   One of the themes I see in the WIP is the problem of language and communication.

Music often bridges gaps that divide us, crossing lines of culture, age and race. I love that my father and children can all sing along to They Might be Giant’s Istanbul not Constantinople.

Step back sometime at a concert and watch how people respond to the music.
