Spotlight on Private Wolf by TL Reeve

After getting a replacement light bulb, my spotlight is once again functional. This time it found fellow Decadent Publishing author TL Reeve and Private Wolf, part of the Black Hills Wolves shapeshifter series. After reading this tease, I can’t wait to read it. Curious? Read on!

privatewolfShawn Blu, tracker and private investigator, has come home. As a pack tracker, he’s ready to defend Los Lobos and use his contacts to find pack members and bring them back into the fold. So, when Miss Fern, his aunt, asks him to find Brienne Talbert, he’s happy to help out. What he isn’t expecting is to find his mate.

Brienne left home at sixteen, knowing she’d return to the Black Hills and Los Lobos one day. As it stands, in six months she’ll graduate with her master’s degree and there’s no way anyone will stop her now. However, when the hunky slab of wolf Shawn Blu shows up with a tempting offer—a week with her pack, no strings attached—she’s willing to reconsider her harsh stance about not going home.

When one weekend turns into a mating she hadn’t planned on, will she be able to leave it all behind and return to school, or will the call of her pack be too much to turn her back on?

Not convinced? Here’s an excerpt:

Shawn Blu walked into Los Lobos Café and spotted his aunt at a table near the far wall. In front of her sat a paperback book and a mug, along with a pastry. Behind the counter, Ero took the order from a new female. Her long dark hair was pulled into a messy bun, and her gray eyes glittered with—arousal? If the other wolf noticed, he appeared indifferent to it. Oh well. Bypassing his normal routine, of ordering coffee and Danish, he marched over and sat at the table where his aunt waited. Fern glanced up at him. Her warm, affectionate smile greeted him.

“Good morning, Auntie.” He leaned in and kissed her cheek. “That twinkle in your eye says you’re up to no good.”

Fern laughed and patted his hand. “I have a job for you.”

A job. Why hadn’t she mentioned it last night when he came over for dinner?

Why did they have to meet in the café? “Okay. What is it?”

“Well, technically, it is two jobs….”

“Okay.”

Ero approached with a cup in one hand and a sweet treat in the other. “You didn’t order. I see why now.” He grinned then winked at Fern.

“I didn’t want to interrupt your time with Cynthia,” Shawn teased. “She’s interested in you.”

“Don’t I know it.” Ero frowned. “But there’s…the spark’s not there.” He glanced at his brother, Luc, who sat in his usual spot.

“Say no more, I understand.” He did, too. They were waiting for their perfect mate. Might be a while, but Shawn had a feeling it would happen. “Thanks for the coffee.”

“You’re welcome.”

Taking a sip of the piping-hot brew, he waited for Ero to leave before returning to the conversation with his aunt. The way Fern watched him—assessing him—left him uneasy. “Should I be afraid of what you’re going to ask of me?”

“Never,” she assured him. “In fact, you’ll win tons of brownie points with Miss Claire if you do this for me.”

Talking with Jessica Subject

I’m heating up the blog with a visit from fellow Decadent Publishing author Jessica Subject.  I did a lot of reading before I wrote my forthcoming 1Night Stand and Jessica’s Beneath the Starry Sky was a standout. I loved how she blended  science fiction and real world concerns. When I learned Beneath the Starry Sky was becoming an audio book, I had to invite Jessica over.

audio Beneath the Starry Sky

  1. Let’s play “dump the purse.” What’s in yours?

LOL Do you really want to know? There is, of course, my wallet, keys, and sunglasses. I usually keep some pads in there, in case of emergency, whether my emergency, or a friend’s. One never knows. I also have mints from Boston Pizza, pads of paper, pens, old cards from flowers that my husband sent me, lip gloss, gum, old shopping lists, receipts, my author business cards, and a couple book postcards. Oh, I have my night driving glasses, a nail file kit, and a hair band.

  1. We’re out at a bar, what are your characters drinking?

Josh would have a beer, whatever is on tap. Tamara would have a Merlot. If wine is not available, she would have a Long Island.

  1. When you heard your characters come to life in someone else’s voice, what was it like?

Honestly, it was the strangest thing ever. Narrators (and readers alike) don’t always emphasis the same things I would. Names may be pronounced differently, and secondary characters might get a different personality than I’d intended. Luckily, by the time I had Beneath the Starry Sky produced as an audio book, I’d had three others produced, and knew what to expect. It’s definitely exciting by the time the final recording is ready.

  1. “Beneath the Starry Sky” is one crazy hot story, and funny to boot. You are one of my go-to authors, which got me thinking, who are some of yours?

Thank you so much, Lola! I get a kick every time  someone says that my stories are funny. I never intend them to be humorous, but it always seems to slip in somehow.

Hmm, I have a lot of go-to authors, and I’m always trying new authors as well. The first author who came to mind was D.L. Jackson. Kate Richards, Kacey Hammell, Kelley Armstrong, Beth Revis, Sharon Lynn Fisher, Andrew Fukuda, and Rick Yancey would be on the list, too.

Beneath the Starry Sky ~ An Audio Book!

A 1Night Stand story

By Jessica E. Subject

Narrated by Audrey Lusk

Erotic Contemporary Romance

Left at the altar with bald patches on her head and her self-confidence stripped away, Tamara Johnson must pick up the pieces of her life and face her Alopecia Areata, the autoimmune disease causing her hair to fall out. She is convinced no man will date a bald woman and arranges a one-night stand through Madame Evangeline’s popular service, 1Night Stand. With her new wig held firmly in place, Tamara arrives at the Castillo Hotel in Las Vegas for a night of passion and pleasure. Anything more than one night would mean exposing her bald head, and she will never do that to any man again.

Running into the Castillo Hotel, away from the paparazzi constantly at his heels, Josh Summers wants to spend his next few days locked away from the flashing lights and screaming fans. When he finds an incredibly sexy woman lying on his hotel room bed in nothing but lingerie, he thinks management has made a mistake. Leaving her behind, he heads for the lobby to get the situation rectified. But an unexpected text from Madame Evangeline sends him back to his room. Though unsure whether the woman on the bed is really his perfect match or just another fan believing him to be like his character on television, he knows he must find out, even if it means he must risk telling her his own secrets. If Tamara can handle his imperfections, she just might be his ideal woman.

Spotlight on Wolf’s Song by Taryn Kincaid

My spotlight shines on fellow Decadent author Taryn Kincaid and Wolf’s Song, part of the Black Hills Wolves series.

Wolf'sSong_300x450Ten years ago, visions of death and the babble of lupine voices in his head, drove lone wolf Brick Northridge to challenge his cruel and greedy pack alpha. Beaten by the alpha’s thugs and banished from the pack, Brick lives a life of seclusion in a mountain cabin in the Black Hills.

Born into a rival clan of feline shifters, skinwalker Summer McCoy, in her guise as a raven, watches Brick from afar, giving him back a reason to live through her sweet songs and special gifts.

But when her clan attempts to tear them apart and threatens the pack that banished Brick so many years before, will their love be strong enough to withstand the forces bent on their destruction?

Want a taste of this wolfy tale?  Read on!

Summer McCoy perched in the uppermost branches of her special Ponderosa pine, in raven guise, engaging in her favorite pastime, spying on the lone wolf chopping wood below. Two days’ worth of whiskers shadowed his rigid jaw. She loved when he forgot—or didn’t bother—to shave. Scruffy stubble suited him.

The sun beat down on the back of his bronzed neck and shone on his hair, the color of roasted coffee, a shade lighter than the dark shadow that charcoaled his face.

She fluffed her feathers in anticipation. Take your shirt off, Brick. She’d heard the giant werebear, Gee, call him that name a decade ago. He’d made some joke about a wall and the hardness of the male’s head. But Brick hadn’t laughed back then. Not ever.

He’d fascinated her from the moment he’d arrived in the glade, bruised and battered. Once she’d learned his name, she’d treasured it, taking pleasure from repeating it often. Secretly, of course. Unwrapping the syllable frequently to admire its radiance in the privacy of her tree house, the way a woman wearing pearls against her warm skin enhanced their luminosity and iridescence.

Now, as if he’d heard her silent urging, he complied with her plea, shrugging out of the plaid flannel and flinging it onto a tree stump. Her beak opened as she sucked in breath. Sweat glistened on his torso, glazing rippling pecs and abs, shoulders broad enough to span the Badlands. A huge, incredible specimen of masculinity. Thick biceps flexed as he wielded the ax. Her heart beat faster than a hummingbird’s wings. Heat licked her.

Talking with Linnea Alexis

Today I’m welcoming fellow Decadent author Linnea Alexis to answer the tough questions and share her newest release, Lost and Found.

  1. What inspired you to write Lost and Found?linneaAlexislost

Author, Louisa Bacio, is a friend, and she told me about Decadent Publishing’s call for submissions for their Beyond Fairytales line. Twisting a fairytale appealed to me, so I accepted the challenge. I was assigned Grimm’s The Stolen Farthings, but was unfamiliar with the story. When I read the fairytale, I got excited because it was a ghost story. And I love anything paranormal!  A couple of things about the plot stood out: money was stolen and hidden by a child ghost only the narrator could see; and, redemption motivated the ghost to reveal (to the narrator) where the money was hidden. Lost and Found was a hoot to write. The challenge was to stay as true as possible to original fairytale’s message.

  1. What types of books do you enjoy reading? What is on your nightstand?

I read everything. Right now, on my Kindle, I’m enjoying Decadent’s Beyond Fairytales books. The stories are imaginative, quick reads, and it is such fun to see what authors have done with their assigned fairytales.  [They are fun!]

Gail Barrett’s romantic suspense Buried Secrets series is on my nightstand. I’m currently reading book two, A Kiss to Die For. Book three in the series, Seduced by his Target, is in my “to be read” pile, along with Lori Wilde’s All Out of Love.

  1. Do you listen to music when you write? If so, what?

If I hit a wall, I listen to the Pink Floyd classic, “Comfortably Numb.” Somehow, that song never fails to re-charge my batteries. But if I want to capture a specific mood for my story, I search for music that fits the scene I’m working on.

During Lost and Found, I wanted fun music when Eli and Haley were in the restaurant. A dance club was in the adjoining room and when disco music drifted into the restaurant, Eli coaxed Haley next door, and onto the dance floor. Disco reminded me of the Bee Gee’s Saturday Night Fever. When “More than a Woman” played, Eli realized how much he cared for Haley. Ever since he met her ten years ago, she always was “More than a woman” to him.

When they returned to their motel room, he turned on an easy listening music station. Realizing this might be their only night together, he feared he’d lose her again (as he had ten years ago).  To capture the mood, I needed slow, sexy, seductive music. “Need you now” by Lady Antebellum, and “Desperado” by The Eagles filled the bill. Both songs revealed his heart to her…and she was his.

I love these musical choices.  Some songs really set the scene.

  1. What is your favorite part about being an author?

Creating a story from a thought, an idea, a word, or a song. I love when a story flows. But editing the rough draft, although difficult, is what is really rewarding. There’s no greater high than when all the elements of the story come together.

  1. Let’s play “Dump the purse” – what’s in yours?

You don’t want to know! My purse is a repository for sales receipts, tissues, and ink pens—I’ve had as many as eleven pens in my purse at one time. I’m constantly cleaning it out.

Once I left the house without a comb in my already stuffed purse. When I looked in the mirror I was devastated to see my hair in such a state of disarray. I couldn’t ask to borrow someone else’s comb, but I found a plastic fork and used it as a hair pick. From that day on, I keep two combs in my purse at all times. And I wouldn’t go anywhere without concealer, eyebrow pencil, or hair spray.

I also keep a small flashlight tucked inside. You never know when you’ll need to find something in the depths of your purse.

A flashlight is a must and I refuse to be caught without a pen.

  1. If your hero or heroine were babysitting my kids (age 6 & 10) what would the night be like?

My hero, Eli, comes from a large Italian family so he’s comfortable around kids. Actually, he’s still a big kid himself. With your consent, he’d probably order pizza and join in whatever games your kids were playing. He likes all sports, video games, and puzzles. Haley, my heroine, is a girly-girl, so she’d be right at home playing with dolls or sitting in on a tea party. But she’s no pushover when it comes to puzzles and could kick Eli’s butt any day of the week at Scrabble or Words with Friends.

Right before the kids’ appointed bedtime, Eli and Haley would bring down the noise level. Your kids would change into their PJ’s and brush their teeth. Realizing it might be hard to get the youngsters to sleep, Eli would gather them in the TV room, start a kids’ video, turn the lights down, and wait for the kids to fall asleep.

They’re hired.

  1. We’re at a bar with your hero and heroine, what are they drinking?

Drinking with Eli, he would order top shelf of whatever you’re drinking. Not to impress you, but he truly wants people to enjoy themselves and tries to give them the best of what’s being offered.

Because Haley prefers wine, he’d order a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon to share with her. And he’d pick up the tab for everyone, of course.

  1. Dessert time! Give me your “either—or” answers
  • Chocolate, fruit or other? Chocolate, especially dark chocolate
  • Warm or cold? Warm
  • Buttercream or fondant? Fondant
  • Cookies or brownies? Brownies!
  • With nuts or without?   Nuts, of course. Actually, my favorite dessert is brownies with nuts.

I think I’m developing a crush Eli. Before you go, tell me more about Lost and Found and where to find it.

Lost and Found

linneaAlexislostAfter Haley Monroe’s estranged husband drops dead, she discovers he’d left her with a whole lot of debt. Too bad the only person who can help sort through the mess and clear her name is her late husband’s attorney, her only one-night stand, and a man she never thought she’d see again.

Attorney Eli Libertini jumps at the chance to help Haley clear up the financial mess. He’d like nothing more than to reconnect with his hookup from spring break ten years ago—the woman he’s never been able to forget.    Thrown together in a dark fairytale adventure, the twosome uncovers a web of hidden heirlooms, ghostly encounters and mysterious storage units about to be auctioned. They’ll have to forget the past in order to regain their once shared passion and have a future.

Gay Erotic Romance
Class in Session, Book 2 (May be read standalone)

All Romance ~ Kindle ~ Kobo ~ NOOK ~ Decadent Publishing

Released November 7, 2014

Barry Kellam receives a mysterious invitation from 1Night Stand and can’t imagine who would arrange a night of sexual passion with him…except perhaps a former student who’s gone on to greater things.

Paul Merrill is the toast of Broadway. While the awards and fame are nice, he wants to  share his success—and his body—with the man who inspired him. But Dr. Kellam isn’t  one to date fellow faculty or alumni. Will he answer Madame Eve’s call?

Excerpt

The fleeting idea that Paul Merrill was somewhere else in Manhattan right now set a chill in his heart. Maybe some billionaire in disguise arranged this, like a super-rich parent he met at an open house who misinterpreted a handshake as a come-on. He shook away the ridiculous notion as the elevator floor vibrated. The ideas ballooned like fantastic movie plots, not unlike the one that would make Paul a household name.

At Room 2401, his hand trembled and it took three tries to get the green light. “Room” hardly described his quarters for the night. 1Night Stand appropriated them with a lavish suite with wide panel windows revealing Times Square in its explosive, mega-watt glory. The waving red lines of the story-high Coca-Cola ad mesmerized him, but only momentarily as he fought to keep his bearings. If his date was here, he was probably in another part of the suite.

The bedroom, no doubt. He swallowed back his nerves, inhaled, and stepped deeper into the living area. Large, suede sofas faced a wall-sized entertainment system. The wet bar looked better stocked than an actual restaurant. Barry’s mouth watered for a shot of vodka.

“Dr. Kellam!”

Barry’s heart jolted and his direction whipped to the left toward the approaching figure. “Paul, thank God it’s you.”

Be sure to pick up the first story, A DIFFERENT CLASS!

FDR High Class of 2004 graduate, Glenn Carson contacts fellow alumni to get a list of who will be attending the upcoming festivities. One call to a disgruntled former student leaves him shaken—apparently, not everyone is looking forward to the reunion. Hoping to ease his frustration, he contacts the 1Night Stand service for a relaxing and passionate encounter.
Known as “Mumbles” to former classmates, Rod Maloney would prefer to focus on the present and his successful business. However, past tragedies continue to haunt him, so he requests Madame Eve find him a man to show him a hot time and help him forget his troubles.
Will their one night together lead to a reunion after all?

I am Leigh Ellwood. I write smutty stories about people who like getting naked and having sex. Some have more sex than others, some have sex with people of the same gender, some have sex with more than one person, and still others have sex with toys and things that require the use of batteries. My stories range from a few thousand words to well past 70k.
I have won awards for writing, and I have received 5-star reviews. I have also received 1-star reviews and people have looked at me funny at cons and events. I enjoy reading, yoga, and rock music. I liked the 9th Doctor best. I don’t wear dresses. I won’t cut my hair or color it. I will not limit myself to one genre when it comes to writing. I write contemporary, paranormal, gay, lesbian, menage, geek, short, long, purposely funny and hilariously sad. Spotlight on Alexa Bourne

Today I’m turning my spotlight on Decadent author Alexa Bourne. She stopped by to share her latest release, Wake Me. Enjoy this tease.

WakeMe_AlexaBourne_200x300Wake Me (Hidden Destiny Book 1)

Her psychic dreams come true.

Sarah McKinley’s attempts to take her foreknowledge of crimes to the Seattle Police Department marked her as a troublemaker and were never taken seriously. Starting over in Austin, she plans never to reveal her gift, but shortly after she arrives, the dreams begin again, and the local police want to know why she has knowledge only the killer could possess.

Detective Jesse Cordell watched his mother con people with her “psychic ability” all through his childhood. He hones in on Sarah, who has means, motive, and opportunity to have murdered the victim in his current investigation. Instinct tells him she didn’t commit the crime, but she definitely knows more than she’s letting on.

Can he put aside his doubts and join forces with her, against everything he believes in, to find the real killer? Or will he do his job and put her behind bars? After all, there’s no such thing as the “psychic ability.” Or is there?

Excerpt:

The buzz around her head grew louder as more students joined the crowd. Yellow tape secured the crime scene several yards away, but limbs still stuck over the cement edge of the water fountain.

A guy in plain clothes ducked under the tape and ventured toward them. A gold shield hung from his belt. “Can anybody tell me what happened?”

“She can!” a male voice from behind called out.

Hoping to take attention off herself, Sarah joined the other students in whirling around to see who the guy meant. Several voices rushed toward the man, accosting him with different versions of the crime. Sarah floated through the sea of people, away from the crowd.

For the nine months, she’d lived in Austin, she’d never mentioned a word about her so-called psychic gift. Almost a full year had passed. She’d started to think she would be normal again.

But a brand-new dream reminded her she would always be different.

Heading toward the street, she picked up her steps. Don’t look back. You’ve done enough damage.

“Miss! Hey, wait up!”

“Damn.” She slowed her feet. No point in trying to run. She’d look guilty of something then the cops would have a reason to haul her off the school campus in cuffs.

Turning, she came face-to-face with the striking plain-clothes cop. “I’m Detective Cordell with Austin Police.” He stood at least six inches taller than she, his jet-black hair sheared in a standard cut for police. The bulk of his chest stretched the material of his short-sleeved dress shirt. With dark eyes and sexy confidence, he was all sorts of captivating. If he hadn’t been such a threat to her freedom, she might even have called him handsome. “Do you have a minute? I’d like to ask you some questions.”

There died his charm.

Spotlight on A Model Hero by Sara Daniel

Today I’m shining my spotlight on Sara Daniel and, A Model Hero, aka Mr. September in the sizzling Calendar Men series.  Sara answered the tough questions a few weeks ago, but I invite her back to find out about her latest.

Time to pull out your Calendar Men calendars. While you’re doing that, I’ll give you some background on how they came into existence…

Leonidas Russo is a former US Marine-turned-fashion model. He uses his connections in the fashion world to put a call out for models to be featured in a charity calendar he’s put together to honor the memory of his brother, an Army soldier who died in the Afghan war. Proceeds for the calendar in the stories will benefit The Fallen Warriors Family Fund, a charity that gives scholarships and assistance to the families left behind.

All together now, flip the calendar page up and gaze in adoration and unabashed lust at the ripped physique and chiseled face of Mr. September. This is his story…  SD_A Model Hero_MD

A Model Hero

Gretchen Meyers is a full-figured woman living in a model thin world. Desperate to end her mother’s constant, nagging stream of dieting and fashion “advice,” Gretchen tackles the challenge of reviving her mother’s faltering modeling agency. All she needs is to woo back Kyle Ramsey, once the hottest model in the country.

Making the preemptive choice to turn his back on his career seemed Kyle’s only option until Gretchen comes calling. He doesn’t care what she wants to offer him, the answer is no. Still, he’s intrigued by her refreshing personality and all her lovely, lush curves.

When tragedy strikes, Kyle finds comfort and healing in Gretchen’s arms. But he can’t trust her with his career-ending secret and she doesn’t believe their relationship will survive the long term. He’s perfect and she’s not even close. Can the fragile ties holding them together survive Kyle’s opportunity to become a true model hero?

Read on for a sample! Excerpt:

The restaurant scene, then, had done its job. Gretchen would have to send Jamie flowers. No, she’d send a box of fattening chocolates instead. “Did you enjoy your evening after I left?”

Kyle’s gaze narrowed, he pushed himself out of the chair. “Did you arrange with Jamie to drop by our table?”

“How could I, when I had no idea where we were going for dinner until we were there?” Not to mention, she’d have preferred to sever essential body parts than ask Jamie Feldman for anything. But her irrational possessiveness was her own problem. “The important thing is you had a good time, and you’re ready to make up for everything you’ve been missing over the past year.”

“Those things aren’t important at all.” He advanced on her slowly.

She took a step back and came up against the door she’d closed a moment before.

Kyle flashed a predatory smile. He took her purse and briefcase from her shoulder, setting them aside. Then he rested his forearms on either side of her head and stared into her eyes, his lips a scant inch from hers as he spoke. “I’m here for you. Our date deserves another shot.”

Her heart thundered. The thick eyelashes framing his gray-green eyes mesmerized her. He stood too near for her to formulate a coherent response. This much physical perfection and sex appeal should be outlawed. Her mind was not equipped to handle it.

“What do you say?” he asked.

Yes, take me. “I say, why me?” Her voice rose with an embarrassing squeak as she struggled to compose a rational argument and remind herself she was in her office, just feet away from her employees who’d never seen her anything less than one hundred percent professional. “I get why you went out with me on Saturday. You’d shut yourself away from the world, and I was the first woman to find you. But you’ve been reminded you can have Jamie or anyone else you crook your finger for. Why do you still want me?”

His gaze softened with a tenderness that pierced her heart. He brushed his thumb along her cheek. “How could I not want you, Gretchen? You’re smart and funny and beautiful and not afraid to let a guy who has no idea what you like order for you on a first date.”

Recipes are a way of life for Gwen Jones. Take one single mother, her infant daughter and a business plan for a small town bakery. Combine with an eventful cross-country flight, chance encounter with her college crush and a dash of motion sickness. Stir in a few nuts, or family members, and large quantities of chocolate. He may be an assistant basketball coach but he refuses to sit on the sidelines. When he runs into the woman whose lips are as unforgettable…
