Having worked as a bartender, shipping clerk, secretary, concierge, document translator, doctoral candidate (in history) and more as I moved through Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, New Jersey, Georgia, and Virginia, I decided I needed a portable career. Writing fit the bill. I daydreamed through the boring jobs and wrote everything from advertising copy, procedure manuals and patents in the more interesting ones.
I now live in Minnesota with my husband, two children, one Sphynx cat and two fluffy rescue cats. I share my brain with a wide assortment of oddball characters eagerly hoping to escape what they call “the loony bin.” I don’t share chocolate covered Oreos with anyone, so don’t ask.
With the publication of Winter Fairy from Crimson Romance (in 2012), I fulfilled a long-held dream of becoming a published author. I still love my original cover.
I spend my non-work time reading, attempting to garden, and volunteering. I am currently on the local PTA board and have served local writing groups in various capacities in the past.
Even though I’m not as active on social media as I was pre-pandemic, I am on twitter (@lolakarns), Facebook, BookBub, Instagram, and Goodreads.
